Dark Fortean Times: A Snarl of Corpses

A Snarl of Corpses Dams the River is a deadly terrain trap that forces players to push their luck and make hard decisions under pressure. It is a quick stand-alone challenge that can be easily integrated into many OSR adventures* or hex crawls. The rules are simple - over the course of 3 rounds players choose an escape path and attempt to pass a certain number of tests. If the players do not succeed within the allotted time the dam breaks and they are consumed by the ensuing flood. The different paths have varying levels of difficulty and while some may only require one success, others require passing the test for multiple rounds. Actions do have consequences. If one path seems fruitless, it is expected that players will change their minds and try for a different means of escape, assuming there’s still time!
