CHAMBER 74 - Task Force Mission: Zeitgeist
A downloadable game
The Task Force sleeper agents were activated on May 4th, 1974, and were directed to assemble and investigate incidents detected near Raleigh, North Carolina. The events that followed took place at a time of organizational reform for CHAMBER’s inner circle, following a decade of enervating setbacks suffered to the agency’s morale and resources while attempting to stem the spread of the Signal phenomena. The chaos within the agency was mirrored by the turmoil and surging cultural disorder within the United States at the time; society and its institutions were in the midst of a great exhaustion, an epochal winding down, punctuated by unpredictable global crises and discoveries.

This is an paranormal investigative scenario designed to be played with the game CHAMBER. It uses the Paragon System created by John Harper and Sean Nittner as its baseline ruleset.
Inspiration for some of the Leads, Locations, and Signal Anomalies were drawn from the Operation Generator prompts in the CHAMBER playset (v1.3).
Additional ideas and inspiration came from the soviet sci-fi novel, Roadside Picnic - particularly the description of the "Empties" which is cribbed almost verbatim from an English translation of the Strugatsky Brothers' work.
Concepts in the scenario that approach the actions, abilities, and "motivations" of the Signal phenomenon were based heavily on Alexander Galloway's Notes For A Liberated Computer Language.
Many of the places, events, and historic details were taken from factual accounts (mostly Wikipedia articles honestly) and wherever possible I tried to avoid anachronisms in the timeline of events.
This is an alpha version of the document and I will be updating some of the text and design over the remaining weeks of November & December 2024. More detailed information about the scenario will be added to this page soon as well. In the meantime, the game is playable as-is and was a lot of fun to write! Enjoy.
